ABOUT JESSIE
My movement journey began when my mom enrolled me in ballet classes at the Jean M. Wong School of Ballet in Hong Kong at the wee age of three. I quickly fell in love with dance and have not stopped moving since (seriously, I can’t even stand still sometimes).
A graduate of the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Food Nutrition and Health, shortly after graduation and working a full-time desk job, I found myself looking for an alternative exercise option to dancing. I knew I wasn’t one to go hit the gym and I don’t love running… so I started signing up for all kinds of classes, from circus training to group fitness classes, and immediately fell in love with the energy and variety of a group exercise class.
What was a hobby and passion became my career. I still work full-time for a local non-profit organization, and I teach dance and fitness classes “in my spare time”. I have my Fitness Instructor Specialist certification from Canfitpro and am certified in TRX Suspension Training, Barre Fitness and Foam Rolling Myofascial Release. I am an active member of the National Coaching Certification Program and am also the Head Coach for the Special Olympics British Columbia Coquitlam Rhythmic Gymnastics program. I am committed to furthering my knowledge and have completed continuing education courses in Active Aging, Stress Resiliency, Fit Pregnancy, and more. I truly believe that movement should be uplifting and energizing, and exercise should be enjoyable. This value is reflected in how I teach my classes, from music and movement choices to thoughtful and respectful cueing.
In addition to running this virtual movement platform, I am also a full-time arts administrator and a part-time dance teacher, choreographer, group fitness instructor, actor, and model. My performance and choreography experiences have allowed me to collaborate with many local artists and musicians, and work with organizations such as Vancouver Fashion Week, Vancouver International Puppet Festival, The Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Moving Mirror Productions, United Players of Vancouver, Western Gold Theatre, and The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. I love collaboration and truly think we all need to help one another and lift each other up as much as we can, so contact me if you want to discuss brand sponsorship and ambassador opportunities! If you are interested in booking me for your next television, film or commercial project, please contact my agent, Brandi, at Ignite Artists Inc.
As busy as my life sounds, I value work-life balance a lot. Travelling and experiencing new places and cultures is important to me, and I consider myself a life-long learner; I am always signing up for courses or learning a new skill. In my down time, I can be found cozying up with my bunny, Peach (fun activity for you: spot Peach in my Flex Room videos!), overwatering my indoor plants, doing something that involves movement, or relaxing in the tub. I’m always looking for book recommendations and love binging shows… so if you have any, send it my way!
ps. whenever I get a notification that someone has subscribed to my newsletter or signed up for a membership at the Flex Room, I do a celebratory dance no matter where I am or what I am doing!
